Telangana planning multiple initiatives for state ULBs

HYDERABAD, Telangana: KT Rama Rao, Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Government of Telangana released the MA&UD department’s ten-year report. He also announced multiple initiatives for the state’s urban areas. The projects include infrastructure, public transport, and water supply in the state capital and 141 other urban local bodies in the state.

As part of Phase II of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), 13 projects worth ₹3,515.33 cr are under progress. These projects consist of nine flyovers, two grade separators and two Road Over Bridges. Further, about 50 missing link roads for a length of 121 km at an estimated project cost of ₹1,500 cr will be taken up by the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL) in the urban bodies around Hyderabad within the Hyderabad Urban Agglomeration.

The Minister said, “The Hyderabad Metro Airport Express Line is in progress which aims to set a record of 15 lakh passengers transporting on a single day and MA&UD is actively working on to improve last mile connectivity and enhance public transit use from 33 per cent to 75 per cent in the next five years. “

MA&UD will also build 14 new bridges across the Musi River with an estimated project cost of ₹545 crore and a pedestrian bridge across the river. These bridges aim to improve the connectivity between the northern and southern parts of the city.

Rao further added, “Hyderabad will soon be the only city to have 100 per cent treatment of sewage through the construction of 31 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) with a collective capacity of 1,259 Million Liters per Day (MLD) costing ₹3,840 cr. Improvement of the sewer network in Zone-III of Hyderabad which falls under the Karwan and Nampally constituencies will be done by the end of 2023 for ₹297 cr. Telangana would also be the only state in India to have Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs) in all ULBs by the end of 2023-24. Proposals for Phase-II of the Strategic Nala Development Plan (SNDP) with an administrative sanction for ₹5,135.15 cr, covering around 450 km of Nala works will be taken up during 2023-24.”
