Maharashtra to give Rs 11,500 crore for flood victims, repair works

MUMBAI: The Government of Maharashtra, on Tuesday, August 3, announced that a sum of Rs 11,500 has been sanctioned to provide immediate assistance to people affected with flood and to carry out repair works in the state. The official statement added that other than providing relief, a part of the fund will also be spent on repair works of infrastructure damaged due to rain.

The official statement also said that a part of the fund will be used to take some long-term measures to address issues related to prevention of floods and their mitigation. The officials statement said that the state disaster management department presented their issues in front of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey and Deputy CM Ajit Powar on the recent floods and rains post which, the state cabinet sanctioned the amount.

Some of the districts, including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara and Kolhapur, were badly affected due to heavy rains from July 21 to 23. More than 200 people lost their jobs in incidents like landslides and over two lakh people were displaced forcefully.
