NEW DELHI: Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) on Thursday, September 16, unveiled India’s largest floating solar plant in Andhra Pradesh. The plant will be located in National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) Simhadri, Andhra Pradesh. The 25-megawatt (MW) floating Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) project will be installed at an area of 100 acres, according to BHEL.
The company said in a statement that BHEL has successfully commissioned the largest floating solar plant of India and the project is an engineering marvel with state-of-the-art design. The statement added that this project will help in saving valuable land resources and conservation of water by reducing evaporation.
The company statement also said that such a complex module has been designed for the first time in India which can withstand wind speeds of up to 180 km/hr. As the project is located at a coastal site, all platforms and structures are made corrosion resistant, it added.
BHEL is one of the leading players in the solar industry of India with an overall portfolio of more than 1.2 gigawatts. Floating solar plant portfolio of the firm is also the largest in India, with more than 45 MW projects commissioned and more than 100 MW under execution.
