CHENNAI: National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited has awarded the first and largest green hydrogen microgrid project of India to the Simhadri plant in Andhra Pradesh. The project has come up at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to become carbon-free by 2070.

The project will expectedly help with large scale hydrogen storage and in deploying various microgrids in several strategic locations of India. The press release said that the hydrogen would be produced using an advanced 240 kW (kiloWatt) Solid Oxide Electrolyser by taking input power from the nearby Floating Solar Project. The release further added that the project would open avenues for decarbonising the far-off regions of India such as Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, etc.
