Heavy rains destroy crops in Andhra Pradesh

AMRAVATI: River Krishna of Andhra Pradesh was flooded by around seven lakhs cusecs of water and destroyed standing crops. The villages on the either side of river, in Krishna and Guntur districts were filled as water level increased significantly.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed four teams and one team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was sent at the wo divisions of the districts. They rescued several affected families from the area and moved them to relief camps.

Perni Venkataramaiah, State Minister of Information and Public Relations, visited the affected area and examined the situation. He also added that the authorities are closely monitoring the situation and proper measures will be used for the safety of people. The village administration is directed to ensure the safety of all and the water is expected to recede gradually from the area.

The Kondaveeti Vagu Lift Irrigation Scheme (LIS) was used first time to drain out the water of flood back to river. The destroyed crops were mostly commercial crops and pulses which are largely grown during this time of the year.
