CHANDIGARH: To control and effectively deal with ascending air pollution pan-NCR, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has made use of cleaner fuels compulsory for new industrial units set up in the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to the orders issued under the Air (Prevention and Control of pollution) Act 1981, the CPCB has asked the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) to permit only those new units in the NCR districts of the states which are using cleaner fuels including natural gas such as Compressed Natural Gas, biogas, propane, butane, liquefied petroleum gas. CPCB has also asked HSPCB to submit a report of action taken regarding this within 30 days.

S Narayanan, Member Secretary at HSPCB, said that they received the directions and it is being implemented with proper monitoring. Approximately 30 per cent of current industries in the NCR of the state have switched to cleaner fuels. HSPCB is now working to achieve 100 per cent target according to the directions of CPCB.
