Haryana cities witnessed disaster management mock drills

GURUGRAM: Disaster management mock drills were held in various cities of Haryana to mock rescue operations during the event of a natural disaster on June 28. 6 locations in Gurugram –  Ambience Mall, Hope Apartment in Sector 15 part 2, Hero Motor Corp Limited, Vikas Sadan on the Mini Secretariat premises, Poly Clinic Sector 31 and Candor Techspace Building, Sector 21 from the Tau Devi Lal Stadium, were subjected to the drill. Rescue teams reached at the designated spots where earthquake like situation was created. The teams conducted a duck, cover and hold operation to evacuate the volunteers who were present in the buildings. 40 people were ‘mock’ injured and 17 ‘mock’ deaths in the drill and were aptly rescued by the teams. “In the two-hour mock drill, the objective was to create better coordination among different departments at the time of a natural disaster. It was a learning exercise, which also aided in strengthening the law and order situation in the city,” said Atul Khatri, Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram, who was charged with the execution of the drill in Gurugram.

In Sonepat, more than 120 persons were rescued in a similar mock raid by the disaster management teams of the city. The teams were formed by the police, Army, Air Force, Home Guards, Indian Tibet Border Police, National Disaster Response Force, Central Industrial Security Force and district administration.

Anshaj Singh, Sonepat DC, expressed content over the proper execution of the drill and hoped that such exercises would increase the readiness of the department during the time of a calamity.
