NEW DELHI: The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD), on Tuesday, March 9, announced that special women mohalla clinics will be opened across the city in the next financial year to offer gynecological and other medical care services to them within walking distance from their homes. Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, Delhi, who also holds the financial portfolio, talked about the special clinics while announcing the government’s annual budget for the financial year 2021–22, in which Rs 9,934 crore has been granted to the healthcare sector.

Sisodia said that GNCTD has set up Aam Admi Mohalla Clinics to make healthcare and medicines accessible to people, for which otherwise they had to travel long distances or shell out huge sums of money at private clinics. Delivering his speech, he said that the state government has proposed to initiate special mohalla clinic for women – ‘Mahila Mohalla Clinic’ from the next financial year and called it a “revolutionary announcement”.

He added that in the first phase, hundred mohalla clinics are planned to be set up in different parts of Delhi, which will be gradually increased to ensure that at least one clinic is functional in every ward. Sisodia further said the step has been taken to make gynecological and other medical services free and accessible to women.

He also said that access to good-quality health and treatment facilities is the right of every citizen and in the 75th year of independence, the government must enhance our health services so that every citizen can be confident about getting healthcare for their family.
