NEW DELHI: With the aim of encouraging people to adopt the new vehicle scrapping policy measures, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of the Government of India issued draft rules on Tuesday, March 30, regarding concession in motor vehicle tax.
In case of transport vehicles, the concession for vehicles registered against submission of ‘certificate of scrapping’ will be upto 15 per cent while for motor vehicles, the tax concession will be upto 25 per cent. The concessions will be available for transport vehicles for a period of eight years and for non-transport vehicles for upto 15 years.
Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, said while announcing the vehicle scrapping policy in the Lok Sabha that it will help improve fuel efficiency and reduce pollution.
The new scheme of the central government will also provide incentives to owners of old vehicles to scrap old and unfit vehicles through registered scrapping centres, which will in turn provide the owners with a scrapping certificate.
