Fresh lockdowns in Maharashtra amid rising COVID-19 cases

MUMBAI: The Government of Maharashtra has announced some new guidelines regarding COVID-19 including lockdowns at various places in Maharashtra due to trend of increasing active cases in the state. Restrictions were put in place in two districts of Amravati and Yavatmal including a 10-day lockdown in Yavatmal and weekend lockdown in Amravati.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also released some COVID-19 related guidelines for Mumbai and clarified that strict measures will be taken against those who defy the rules of home isolation, weddings and public gatherings, according to an order from Iqbal Singh Chahal, Commissioner, BMC. Schools for students of classes 5-9, colleges and coaching classes will remain closed till February 28 in Yavatmal district. Religious places in the region will be open but COVID-19 restrictions will be strictly implemented.

The BMC has said that around 300 marshals will be appointed to take action against the passengers travelling without masks in suburban railways. The civic body has intensified actions against persons found without masks in public places and will take action against the function halls, gymnasiums and other places which don’t follow the safety guidelines. The guest limit in function halls is 50 and restaurants are allowed to operate with a limit of 50 per cent occupancy at any time.
