NEW DELHI: The officials of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) said on Monday, January 9, that firms have been invited to submit plans to transform 50 public restrooms into ‘smart toilets’.
According to them, the project will be based on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The EDMC plans to outsource work for the conversion of 50 public restrooms at specific locations in its area into smart toilets, with advertising rights and commercial space in limited or permitted areas at the facilities, on a “design, build, operate, and transfer (DBOT) basis,” as per the statement.
It said that the toilets would be operated, managed, and maintained on a “free user charge basis” for only ten years. According to EDMC Commissioner Vikas Anand, the corporation has requested bids from businesses to convert 50 toilets in the area into smart toilets using PPP approach. The agency will be given 35 square feet of commercial space with each toilet, as well as the right to put advertisements on the toilet building, according to the statement.
