E-passports to be rolled out in 2022-23: FM Sitharaman

NEW DELHI: Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance, Government of India, while talking on the Union Budget 2022, announced that e-passports would be rolled out from next year to provide more convenience to the public. She added that the e-passports will use embedded chips and futuristic technology. A chip integrated in the passport booklet will have the applicant’s signed personal information.

The passports will be in line with international rules. They will have more security features and will use biometrics and Radio-Frequency Identification. It is expected to facilitate smooth passage through immigration posts globally as it hinges on biometric data.
