NEW DELHI: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will set up 500 medical oxygen plants across the nation within three months under the PM CARES (Pradhan Mantri’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations) fund. DRDO will use the Medical Oxygen Plant (MOP) technology developed for the on-board oxygen generation on the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas.

A statement from the DRDO said that the organisation has initiated the fabrication of 380 MOPs with a target of producing 125 plants per month under the PM CARES fund. In addition to this, 120 plants of 500 litres per minute capacity will be produced by Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun, and others belonging to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CISR), DRDO said.

The statement added that the transfer of technologies to the Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Trident Pneumatics Pvt Ltd has been done which will produce the plants for installation across various hospitals in the country. It also added that the hospitals will be able to generate on-site medical oxygen in a cost-effective manner without relying on external sources.
