FARIDABAD: The Directorate of Urban Local Bodies (ULB), Government of Haryana has asked for the report on implementing the plastic ban from the Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF). The notification banning single-use plastic items was issued by the state government on February 25.

The office of the ULB asked the authorities to look into the matter concerning the implementation of the plastic ban through an official communiqué addressed to the MCF Commissioner. The directive came in response to a complaint from Avtar Krishan Gaur, Head of the Expert Committee on Plastic Waste Management. The complaint reads that all the activities related to enforcement of the provisions of the plastic ban have been dormant since Diwali. He added that ULB has also failed to form an adequate number of teams who would have done the groundwork.

A social activist Varun Sheokand has informed that the local authorities are not adequately enforcing restrictions on the manufacturing, sale and use of single-use plastic items.

The notification concerning the ban reads, “No person shall manufacture, stock, distribute, sell, use carry bags and articles such as plates, cups, tumblers, spoons, forks, straws made of virgin or recycled plastic (not less than 75 microns in thickness) in the state.”

Around 24 district officials have been empowered to issue challans against the offenders starting from ₹500 to ₹25,000.
