DIBRUGARH: Assam government has set a deadline for the completion of solid waste management plant in Lekai of Dibrugarh. The deadline for the completion of the solid waste management plant is set for May 1, 2020.

Binod Sesan, project director, Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Programme reviewed the progress of the project.

Pallav Gopal Jha, deputy commissioner, Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation, said,“”We are sure that the solid waste management plant will solve the decade old problem of garbage disposal in Dibrugarh. In 210 bigha plot of land the solid waste management plant will be set up.”

The SWM plant was one of the major demands put forward by the citizens of Dibrugarh. The residents of the town will have relief from the garbage related issues post the completion of the plant. Currently, there is no scientific garbage disposal system in Dibrugarh. The generated waste is dumped at Maijan in an unscientific manner. It is to be mentioned that, Assam government sanctioned Rs 48.49 crore for the setup of solid waste management plant in Lekai. Garbage dumped at Maijan road in Dibrugarh which was creating problem for the local residents from the past few years.
