NEW DELHI: The Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital, run by the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD), is going to have Delhi’s first storage facility for COVID-19 vaccines. The hospital has been identified by the central government and will be one of the first such facilities in India. The utility block of the hospital, which has been chosen and approved by a team of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the storage facility, has a size of 5,000 square metres. It will be reconstructed with freezers and a power backup.
Dr BL Sherwal, Medical Director of the 500-bed hospital, said that now that the site has been identified, the government should make improvements for the vaccine storage. Government has also started identifying healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, pharmacists from both government and private sector, who will be vaccinated in the first phase.
