NEW DELHI: Delhi forms ‘flying squads’ to keep a close eye at the air pollution hotspots which are majorly contributing to the rising air quality index.
Over 140 sites were inspected by the ‘flying squads’, a team constituted by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), for compliance with the commission’s directions to control air pollution.
The squads identified several units in violation of the CAQM’s directives. The commission will be taking strict actions against the non-conforming units including closure. Over 40 inspection teams or ‘flying squads’ have been constituted by the CAQM which will be conducting regular inspections at various sites.
The inspection team will be keeping a close eye on sites and sectors that have a higher contribution to the overall air quality index. 12 teams have been deployed in NCT of Delhi and NCR districts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The team especially targets industrial units, construction sites and hotspots for air pollution.
After the inspection of the sites, the squads are required to submit their reports to the Enforcement Task Force, a recently constituted unit of the CAQM. For better supervision of the squad, the CAQM also holds daily meetings with the task force.
