NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court suggested authorities to consider a plea seeking a reserved lane for unrestricted travel of emergency vehicles round the clock. A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh said that some policy formulation is required in this and the Court has no reason to direct the authorities in this.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by Vinay Kumar seeking the direction to Department of Transport, Government of NCT of Delhi and Delhi Police to provide for a dedicated lane for seamless 24*7 movement of emergency vehicles. The plea also seeks the Court to direct the Delhi Police to ensure immediate implementation and enforcement of the law, and to also direct the Delhi Disaster Management Authority to provide required support and infrastructure for the implementation of the dedicated reserved lanes.

The plea mentioned that Delhi has 56 per cent of the traffic in Delhi is congested and almost 190 hours are lost in traffic on an average. It also added that presently, the response time of emergency vehicles has increased due to huge daily traffic congestion.
