NEW DELHI: According to officials, the Government of NCT of Delhi has started selecting sites for food truck hubs, as stated in the Rozgar Budget 2022-23, with teams of Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) and land-owning agencies undertaking inspections across the city. According to a DTTDC official, a report on the identified areas based on the survey will be submitted to the government this week.

Various aspects, such as land availability, footfall, and infrastructure availability, will be considered in the establishment of food truck hubs as per a policy to be created by the government, the officer added. Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia had previously stated that the food truck markets would provide residents with a “vibrant nightlife experience” while also acting as a driver for the city’s nighttime economy.

The current government is first in the country to implement a “Food Truck Policy” on the model of the United States and Europe to streamline food truck operations in the city. The Delhi government estimates that the promotion of food truck businesses in the city will result in at least 15,000 new job opportunities.

The DTTDC, which is in charge of developing the food truck policy, is also working on a number of other government initiatives in Delhi, including the redevelopment of five major retail markets.
