NEW DELHI: The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has approved a 17-kilometer ‘priority section’ to run from Delhi to Meerut, which is to be operated by RAPIDX- India’s first semi-high speed rail designed for a top speed of 160 km per hour.
The approved 17 km long section is part of 82 km of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor which will have five stations- Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai depot.
An official stated that “Over the course of the last year, more than one Independent Safety Assessors have rigorously examined the processes deployed by the NCRTC for implementing this state-of-the-art, world-class, new-age transit infrastructure project. Thus, the system has been thoroughly scrutinised, and only after the clearances it has received approvals from the Ministry of Railways and CMRS.”
He further added “The section will be inaugurated in a phased manner and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has on many occasions announced that the country’s first corridor will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Once the ministers approve and give dates, the section will be inaugurated.”
Officials said that 11 trains with six coaches have arrived. About five or six trains will be required for the priority section, said the official. “We ordered 30 trains, 11 have arrived […] For Meerut Metro, we have placed an order for 11 train stocks with three coaches,” he said.
