NEW DELHI: Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant urged the Indian Institute of Technology – Goa (IIT-Goa), on Saturday, to address the threat of sea erosion, the possibility of microplastic in fish, and environmental challenges in the wake of worries expressed by several MLAs from coastal districts.

While addressing a conference at IIT-Goa, CM Sawant expressed his wish to see the institute resolving the state’s environmental problems. Goa’s lush flora, immaculate beaches, and fresh air are treasured by every visitor. Change in sea level due to climate change is having an adverse impact on the shoreline. Flooding and severe rain are the results.

He said that the State Pollution Control Board and IIT Goa are working together to create forecasting tools for the degree of air quality. He praised the institute for producing face shields for front-line personnel during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Rohan Khaunte, Minister of Tourism, Government of Goa, has stated that marine erosion has grown to be a serious threat to the tourism sector and needs to be addressed with a newer approach. Additionally, MLAs from coastal regions expressed worry about beaches being wiped away by sea erosion.
