RAIPUR: The Government of Chhattisgarh has planned to make a zone in every civic area, where trees of cultural and medicinal value will be planted. These areas would be known as ‘Krishna Kunj’. Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel has directed all the district collectors of the state to provide at least one acre of land to the Forest Department of Chhattisgarh for this venture.

According to CM Baghel, worshipping of trees like Banyan, Neem and Kadamb has been an ancient tradition in India, but because of rapidly increasing deforestation in cities, this tradition and knowledge of local medicinal plants is being lost. In order to retain their significance in the present times, this initiative is a need of the hour, he added.

The plantation drive will be initiated on Krishna Janmashtami this year.
