CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has earmarked Rs 80 lakh for each ward for the financial year 2021-2022, to push the pending development works in the region. In 2020-21, the authorities were not provided enough funds for the development of wards due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2019, the ward development fund was doubled from Rs 40 lakh per year to Rs 80 lakh per year. The mayor is provided Rs 2 crore of funds per year which is to be spent on the development of any ward. Shailender Singh, Chief Engineer, said that the municipal corporation has already began with the tendering process to carry forward the development work. He added that the tendering process takes time and the work will start soon but the bills for the same will be generated in the next fiscal.

The councillors are also repeatedly criticised for failing to spend the allocated fund in the development works except three who have spent the funds.
