GUWAHATI: Assam is planning to double its solid waste management (SWM) treatment capacity by 2026, owing to rapid growth in waste generation .According to officials in the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Assam, the DPR (detailed project report) is ready for 42 Urban Local Bodies (ULB) to establish new SWM treatment plants at the cost of Rs 64.37 crore, with a capacity of 527 tonnes per day (TPD).The central and the state government funded 90 and 10 per cent respectively for the project. The projects have been sanctioned in 20 districts of the state, including Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Darrang Dhemaji, Dhubri, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Sonitpur, and Tinsukia.
