VIJAYWADA: Andhra Pradesh has saved 3,430 units of energy, which is worth 0.295 million tonne of oil equivalent (MTOE), costing around Rs 2,350 crore. The state achieved the reduction of 1.38 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emission under Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) cycle-2, mandatory flagship programme of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
According to BEE, the saving is 40 per cent more than what was achieved by the industries in the PAT cycle-1. BEE implements the PAT scheme, which is a market-based compliance mechanism made to promote cost-effective energy efficiency measures in large and energy-intensive industries via certification of tradable energy savings. As part of the programme, the state achieved energy savings of 0.205 MTOE in PAT cycle-1.
Under the PAT scheme, Designated Consumers (DCs-industries), which save energy more than the targets, will be given Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts) by the BEE. These ESCerts can be traded on the exchange to the under-performing DCs in order to avoid penal actions under Energy Conservation Act, 2001. State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) is the state-designated agency which monitors the implementation of PAT scheme.
