RANCHI: The Asian Development Bank (ADB), an international funding agency, has approved a loan of over Rs 831 crore (USD 112 million) to be used for the development of water supply infrastructure in Jharkhand. Sanjay Joshi, Principal Urban Development Specialist, ADB, said that the project is in alignment with the Jharkhand Vision and Action Plan for 2021.
The project will cover four towns in the state and improve the livability for the residents by developing quality urban infrastructure, said ADB in an official statement.
Jharkhand’s residents receive only an average of three to four hours of daily water supply. Joshi said that the project will improve the quality of the water supply and the level of sanitation in the area.
The Jharkhand Urban Water Supply Improvement Project includes the construction of four water treatment plans with a combined capacity of 275 million litres per day. Over 1,15,000 households, including slums, will be benefited from the project. The staffers of the urban local bodies will also be trained on the design and capacity building under the project.
The project is expected to be completed by 2028 and will cost over USD 160 million out of which, USD 48 million will be financed by the Government of Jharkhand.
According to ADB, advanced technology will be included to minimize water loss and ensure complete utilization of the resource.
