800 traffic personnel deployed in Delhi to enforce odd even

NEW DELHI: For the proper enforcement of the odd-even scheme, Delhi government’s flagship scheme to curb air pollution, Delhi Traffic Police will be deputing 200 teams across the city beginning from November 4.

“We will deploy 200 teams across the city for smooth implementation of the odd-even scheme,” Taj Hassan, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said.

Each team will be constituted of 4 traffic personnel who would be tasked with action against violators. The violators would be penalised with Rs 4,000 and officials above, sub divisional magistrates and tehsildars, head constables, assistant traffic inspectors and ranks above in Delhi Traffic Police have been authorised to issue challans to violators, said officials.

Along with the deputation of police force, the Delhi government has also announced the staggering of work hours for 42 of its departments. 21 departments will shift office timings from 10:30 pm to 7:00 pm and the rest from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm during the implementation of the odd-even scheme.

This iteration of the scheme will waiver the exemption of private CNG vehicles from previous editions. Other than this, female driven cars or cars in which women are on board would also be exempted from the challan. Vehicles with school students, vehicles of Delhi police personnel, Armed Forces personnel, the Prime Minister, Union Cabinet Ministers, Governors and President will also be exempted from the scheme.
