CHENNAI, Tamil Nadu: The Chennai Corporation Council met on Monday, after the dissolution of the model code of conduct following the election result, and passed 85 resolutions related to infrastructure development, welfare schemes, and a new system for town planning, including a single window system for the approval of building permissions based on self-certification.

The resolution regarding the single window system for building approval aims to remove the requirement of the completion certificate. The plots falling between the 2500-3500 area range can get instant registration without the building permission.

Apart from this, a uniform rate to be collected from the applicants on self-certification has also been proposed in the council meeting. It includes CMDA development charges, vacant land tax, building licence fees, road cut restoration charges, welfare fund charges, and regularisation and development charges for unapproved plots registered before November 20, 2016.

Additionally, the Department of Park of Greater Chennai Corporation and Chennai River Rehabilitation Trust will beautify the existing ones and create new parks at an estimated cost of ₹4.5 crores in six locations alongside Buckingham Canal in zone Ix. The resolution passed by the council, Tamil Nadu Water Investment Company (TWIC) Limited will prepare the detailed evaluation report and design for the project.

The council has also approved the plan to rope in private parties for the solid waste management in zones 5 and 6, considering the satisfactory performance in 11 other zones of Chennai.
