Rs 100-a-day incentive for girls attending schools in Assam

DISPUR: In a distinctive initiative to empower women’s education, the Government of Assam will pay every school-going girl student a sum of Rs 100 per day for attending classes. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Education Minister of Assam, said on January 4, 2021, that the Rs 100-a-day scheme will be launched by the end of the current month.

The Assam government is presently distributing two-wheelers to female students of class 12 who have passed in first division from the state board under the Pragyan Bharti Scheme. He added that an amount of Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 will be deposited to the bank accounts of undergraduate and postgraduate students respectively by the end of January to aid them in buying books and other study material.

These financial initiatives were originally planned to be launched in 2020 but it had to be shelved temporarily due to the coronavirus pandemic.
