GURUGRAM: Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) issued orders against dumping of sewage waste in open on April 22, 2019. According to the order of the corporation, any vehicle if found dumping sewage waste in public areas and empty plots will be charged Rs 5000 under section 292 (2) Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994.
Yashpal Yadav, MCG commissioner said that many cases of sewage dumping in the open had come to his notice and the order was passed because this practice was detrimental to the environment of the city. Yadav has appointed officials in all the four zones in the city to identify the defaulters.
According to the commissioner, “principal originators” have to hand over sewage waste to empanelled agencies only or will be fined with Rs 5000 on first detection and 20 per cent more than last time for subsequent detections, according to the rules of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). He said that the collected fines will be kept in a separate account named ‘Environmental Compensation Fund’ which will be utilized for rehabilitation of environmental damage. “In case of repeated offence, an FIR will be registered against the defaulter under Section 188, 269, 270, 277, 278, 290, 336 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and under Section 15(1) & (2) of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986,” added Yadav.
