AMARAVATI, Telangana: The state has been battered by incessant rains and severe flooding, leading to widespread devastation and raising the death toll to 21 as of September 3, 2024.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy visited to meet with flood-affected victims. He announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who have lost their lives, noting that 16 deaths have occurred in the last three days due to the heavy rains. The Chief Minister also mentioned that more than eight districts have been hit the hardest.

The relentless rainfall, which continues in some areas, has caused severe inundation in low-lying regions, damaged crops, and disrupted the state’s rail and road networks.

The heavy rains have also significantly impacted rail traffic. South Central Railway officials reported that due to waterlogging on the tracks at multiple junctions, 432 trains have been cancelled, and 13 trains have been partially cancelled. Additionally, around 139 trains have been diverted as of the afternoon of September 2.
