PATNA: In Bihar, severe heatwave killed more than 12 people in 24 hours and the death toll in last 72 hours reached 90, as per the state disaster management department’s website.
In Aurangabad district, the number of deaths recorded is 41, in Gaya, 35 and in Nawada 14.
Deepak Kumar, chief secretary, Bihar, said, “The government will conduct an inquiry into how intense the heatwave was on June 15, 2019, as it recorded highest number of deaths in a day.”
Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, has already announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the victims. The government has released an advisory telling people not to go outside during daytime.
