Bombay HC orders: No thermocol for Ganpati pandal decorations across the state

MUMBAI: Keeping their word and aim to make Maharashtra plastic free, the Bombay High Court has already passed an order for this year’s celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi will be plastic and theromocol free. No thermocol material will be allowed across the Maharashtra for decoration of Ganpati Pandal.

The Bombay High Court’s order is a return of the association of thermocol manufacturers seeking relaxation on plastic ban in the state.

Considering thermocol as an environmental hazard, the Bombay High Court said that it is a non-biodegradable material and it harms environment. As it is used in a huge quantity during Ganpati Puja and later on it makes its way to the city’s water supply and effects health of people. Not only effects people but also it is of great harm to aquatic life.
