NEW DELHI: In the ward elections held on Wednesday, September 4, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came on top and secured the positions of Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the zonal ward committees. Out of the 12 zones, the BJP was victorious in seven, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won only in five zones.
Earlier on Tuesday, there was confusion over whether the election would be held, as Mayor Shelly Oberoi was reluctant to appoint the presiding officer. However, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, appointed all Municipal Corporation Delhi (MCD) Zone Deputy Commissioners to act as presiding officers to ensure that the election was as per the prescribed schedule.
