DISPUR, Assam: In order to support ‘Divyangjans’, a ‘Samajik Adhikarita Shivir’- distribution camps will be organised in the Sonitpur and Biswanath Chariali districts of Assam. Through these camps more than 8000 Aid and Assistive Devices will be distributed to the beneficiaries, free of cost. The distribution camps will be organised under the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), and the concerned district administrations are organising these distribution camps.
The distribution camp in Biswanath Chariali will be organised on June 19, in Kamalakanta Natya Samaj. A total of 4573 Aids and Assistive Devices, worth Rs 218.83 lakhs, will be distributed to 2561 pre-identified ‘Diyangjans’. These beneficiary ‘Divyangjans’ has been identified through assessment camps organised by ALIMCO.
In the Sonitpur district, camps will be organised at the premises of Kalaguru Sangeet Mahavidyalay on June 20, by the District Administration of Sonitpur. Through this, a total of 3,445 Aids and Assistive devices costing Rs 199.60 lakhs, will be distributed to 1808 pre-identified beneficiaries.
Pratima Bhoumik, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, will virtually inaugurate the camps from New Delhi.
