DISPUR: The Government of Assam on Wednesday, September 8, introduced an electric vehicle (EV) policy aiming to phase out the use of fuel-based vehicles by 2030. According to government orders, all official vehicles and public buses will be replaced by EVs within the next five years.
Authorities are offering a set of incentives to those who switch to EVs namely- an exemption on registration charges and roadside tax, waiver on parking charges, etc.
If a person purchases a two-, three-, or four-wheeler EV,they receive a subsidy of Rs 20,000, Rs 50,000, and Rs 1.5 lakh respectively.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, announced that under the aforementioned policy, rolling out 200 electric and 100 CNG buses in Guwahati by April 1 next year will be a short-term goal of the state government.
