NEW DELHI: Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India, stated that the central government has allocated significant funds under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Assam over the last two years. These funds were earmarked for the relief and rehabilitation of those affected by natural disasters.
Karnataka received ₹941 crore, Himachal Pradesh ₹873 crore, and Assam ₹594 crore for floods and landslides during 2022-2024. Additionally, Tamil Nadu was granted ₹276 crore for floods and cyclones, Sikkim ₹267 crore, and Nagaland ₹68 crore for floods and landslides.
Rai clarified that additional financial assistance from the NDRF is considered according to established procedures. He noted that states often include ineligible items in their memorandums and assess expenditures beyond prescribed norms. Funds from the NDRF, he emphasised, are intended for immediate relief, not for long-term rehabilitation or resettlement.
