AURANGABAD, Maharashtra: The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) can now use ‘Harit maha city compost’ branding for the marketing and sale of compost manufactured by the civic body using municipal solid waste.

The compost produced by the civic body was sent to the Swachh Maharashtra Mission (Urban) for testing, and after analysing the test results, concerned state-level authorities have allowed the local body to use the brand name ‘Harit maha city compost’.

Sameer Unhale, Director of Swachh Maharashtra Mission (Urban), said, “The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation is generating compost using degradable municipal solid waste. It is found in compliance with the standards of the Fertilizer Control Order (FCO) (promulgated under Section 3 of Essential Commodities Act, 1955).” FCO, administered by the Department of Agricultural Cooperation of centre, specifies what substances qualify as fertilisers and could be used in the soil. It also lays down product-wise guidelines, methods for sampling and analysis of fertilisers and conditions which needs to be satisfied for trading purposes.
