BERHAMPUR: Owing to outstanding non-payment of electricity bill amounting to Rs 7.65 crore by the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), the city might lose its energy supply.
On November 2, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) had issued a notice to the civic body, providing 15 days of time for the payment of the pending electric bill.
As November 17 was the deadline given by the TPCODL, the continuation of street lights and similar services in the city remains uncertain.
According to a report, the pending amount of the electricity dues even before March 2021 amounted to Rs 16 crore. Due to BeMC’s inability to pay the whole amount, they had later urged the TPCODL for a one time settlement. The energy distributor had relaxed an amount of Rs 8.55 crore. DISCOM, on August 22, had issued a written notice for the payment of Rs 7.65 crore to the BeMC.
As the civic body did not pay the rebated amount, TPCODL granted a 15-day grace period for the bill payment.
