NEW DELHI: Jharkhand government and Airports Authority of India (AAI) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 24 to set up an airport in Dhalbhumgarh in East Singhbhum district, an official said on January 22.
Amit Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, said that the signing of MoU will be followed by the ground-breaking ceremony to be performed by Raghubar Das, Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
Kumar while addressing a conference said, Jayant Sinha, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, R N Choubey, secretary of Civil Aviation and senior officials of AAI will be present while signing the MoU.
In the last meeting with the state cabinet at Dhalbhumgarh, the airport project was approved. The airport will be a joint venture project between the Jharkhand government and AAI, said Kumar
Kumar further added that 240 acres of government land, has been procured for the first phase of the project. A blue print of the proposed airport will be present during the occasion and the first phase work of the airport will be completed by end of 2020. A 72-seater aircraft will start operating initially from the airport from January 2021. AAI will soon invest Rs 100 crore to construct boundary wall of the airport, develop runway, and many other needed infrastructure.
