AMRITSAR, Punjab: The Amritsar Municipal Corporation has joined hands with the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched a Zero Waste Schools programme in the state capital. As part of the programme, students and school management will be involved in educating and adopting sustainable waste management practices in the concerned schools.
Originally, the Zero Waste Programme was launched last year at the pan-Punjab level. The programme engages both public and private stakeholders, including students and officials from the municipal departments. Apart from that, recently, a workshop on waste segregation was organised in around 10 schools, including Shri Guru Harkrishan International School and the School of Eminence (SoE), Chheharta.
Under the six-month-long programme, waste management experts from both CEEW and USAID will educate about 50 lakh students in about 27,400 government and private schools in Punjab.
Apart from that, the corporation has also been providing manuals on waste collection, segregation, and management as part of the Clean School Programme.
