CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Council of Ministers, on Monday, August 6, accepted the recommendations of the Haryana Backward Classes Commission (HBCC) regarding the proportion of reservations to be given to the backward classes (B category).
In 2022, the state government gave reservations to the backward classes (A category) in Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
The report outlining the proportion of reservations given to the backward classes (B category) was prepared by HBCC. Category A of the backward classes consists of 72 castes, while Category B includes six castes. The official spokesperson informed that the backward classes (A category) get 18.93 per cent of the reservation, while the backward classes (B category) share stands at 15.05 per cent.
While recommending the proportion of reservation, the commission said that this is essential to ensure adequate representation of these castes in a democratic setup. The official informed that reservations given to backward classes (B category) will not affect reservations provided to the A category.
Apart from that, the council of ministers also discussed some of the key issues, such as the job quota for the Agniveers, MSP, revising the pension given to retired judicial officers, and assigning the responsibility of the district registrar to Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADC).
