CHENNAI: World Bank officials held a high-level meeting with various government agencies operating in Chennai on Wednesday, December 1, to support the planning process of the Digital Chennai with integrated urban infrastructure.
Digital Chennai is an initiative to improve the urban mobility of Chennai and to operationalize Chennai’s data policy. This initiative will provide technical and analytical studies to improve the Chennai City Partnership.
The Greater Chennai Municipal Corporation is going to set up a consultant body for the integrated urban data platform and further planning of the urban project. The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) will be developing a mechanism to increase community engagement.
The civic body will take up projects to improve the walkability and parking policy of the city. A public-private partnership with the World Bank will be set up to improve the parking situation. The officials also passed a proposal to form a systematic approach for charging electric vehicles in residential areas, public spaces, and semi-public spaces.
