GURUGRAM: In a meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) held on July 17, a decision was taken to seal all the illegal borewells via an enforcement drive. Findings which have indicated the rapid depletion of the ground water of the city prompted the authorities to take this course. The drive, which is to be conducted in the next few days, would enforce the Centre’s ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ in the city. Four teams with officials of the District Town and Country Planning (DTCP) and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) were also formed on Wednesday, July 17, to check the condition of the rainwater harvesting systems at residential societies in the city. “We will be working with residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) in the societies to ensure the proper implementation of water harvesting systems,” said Amit Khatri, DC, Gurugram. He also announced that a helpline to raise issues related to wastage or illegal use of groundwater would be launched on July 19. “Residents can register a complaint on the helpline if they find someone wasting water or using an illegal borewell,” the DC added.
