With 22,252 new COVID-19 cases, India’s tally at 7.19 lakh

NEW DELHI: India’s coronavirus tally crossed the seven lakh-mark on Tuesday, July 7, with 22,252 new cases and 467 deaths in the last 24 hours. According to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s data, the total tally stands at 7,19,655, which includes 20,160 deaths and 2,59,557 active cases. 4,39,948 patients across the country have recovered from the highly contagious disease taking the recovery rate to 61.13 per cent.

From July 3-7, the total number of COVID cases in the country jumped by over one lakh, with the number of daily cases crossing the 20,000 mark on all four days. While the daily increase in COVID cases crossed the 24,000 mark on July 5 and 6. According to the health ministry, during the last 24 hours, 2,41,430 samples have been tested. The cumulative number of samples tested till now has crossed the 1 lakh mark as a result of continuously expanding network of 1115 testing labs across the country.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state due to COVID-19 with 2,11,987 cases, out of which 87,699 are active, 1,15,262 have been cured/discharged and 9,026 have succumbed to the disease. COVID-19 cases in the national capital crossed the 1 lakh-mark on Monday, July 6, with 1,379 fresh cases and 48 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in Delhi reached 1,00,823, with 25,620 active cases and 3,115 deaths while 72,088 people have recovered from the virus, taking the recovery rate to 71.49 percent.
