Uber, DMRC partners to introduce ‘Public Transport’ service in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Uber, a US based taxi aggregator giant has joined hands with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to introduce a seamless public transit system ‘Uber Transit’ at a few select metro stations in the capital.

Delhi will be the Asia’s first city to have such a transit system by Uber. Earlier, the company had launched similar services in other cities like Boston in the US, Nice in France, and more.

Once the service is implemented, the people using Uber app will see an option of ‘Public Transport’ alongside ‘UberGO’ and ‘UberPool’ after entering he destination. The users selecting ‘Public Transport’ as an option will see fastest and most affordable routes, real-time schedules for metro trains, buses and walking directions, to and from nearby metro stations and bus stops, said Uber.

Pradeep Parameswaran, president Uber India and South Asia said that the company aims to build every leg of the journey seamless.

Further, the service will be expanded to all the 210 metro stations eventually, but no specific timeline was given.
