NEW DELHI: East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), aiming to improve its performance in Swachchta Survekshan 2019, plans to outsource some of its services, including solid waste management and maintenance of toilets. This year, its ranking slipped down to 341 from 196.
A review meeting was held with all the department heads on 30, August 2018, by Ranbir Singh, commissioner of EDMC. “Proposals are being considered to outsource the construction of new toilets and maintenance of both the new and existing ones. The other proposal of the solid waste management system- from segregation and door-to-door collection of waste till it reaches the waste to energy plants and ultimately the landfill sites- would also be outsourced,” He said.
The cleanliness ranking has 13 parameters for the assessing the quality of civic bodies in India. The civic agencies will have to upload data on the portal for the survey. To verify, officers will make field visits and will also check for open defecation. Citizens will also give their feedback. EDMC will also appoint a nodal officer for monitoring each parameter. Singh says that the officer will be held accountable for the quality of services in that parameter.
RWAs and market associations will be approached by civic bodies to start social media campaigns, involving students and councilors.
