CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail has appointed consultants for designing of the phase-II of Chennai Metro covering Madhavaram to CMBT and Madhavarm to Shollinganallur via Purasawalkam and Mylapore.
The two companies namely Systra (Rail Transport Company) and Consulting Engineering group CEG-AECOM consortium have been entrusted with detailed designing of the phase-II corridor.
The detailed design which will be prepared by the companies will include exact location of metro stations, land need for construction and the area from which it will pass.
The phase-II of the project is expected to be built at a cost of Rs. 80,000 crore and will cover an area of around 108 km in the city.
CMRL official said the State will fund only 25-30 per cent of the project rest of the money will be invested by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
In the meantime, till the designing work is in progress the CMRL has started sending notice to the residents living in the area to be acquired by the government for project execution.
