TURA, Meghalaya: The Government of Meghalaya has announced to include the ‘Happiness Index’ in the state for the next five years. The decision was announced by Conrad K Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, to ensure that public happiness remains one of the integral parts of governance.
He emphasized, “When governing the state, one must consider the populace’s happiness. We must determine whether the economic growth we are fostering is consistent with the happiness and contentment of the populace. People must be involved in government and governance.”
He further added that “Happiness originates from the inside, not the outside. If people are satisfied with their government, they are content.”
A recent study carried out by Rajesh K Pillania, a professor of strategy at the Management Development Institute in Gurugram, has declared Mizoram as the happiest state in India while Kanpur to be the happiest city.
