NEW DELHI: According to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), India recorded the highest-ever single-day spike of coronavirus cases, with 83,883 fresh coronavirus infections in 24 hours, taking the country’s total tally to 3,853,406 on Thursday, September 3, and the death toll to 67,376 with 1,043 fatalities.
Of the total confirmed cases, the active cases are 8,15, 538, while 2,970,492 patients have recovered from the virus so far. The recovery rate increased to 77.09 per cent with 68,584 recoveries in a single day. With daily recoveries increasing, India has recorded more than 60,000 recoveries in a single day for the seventh consecutive day.
MoHFW said on Wednesday, September 2, that the recovery rate of 12 states and Union Territories was higher than the national average of 76.98 per cent. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are the two states that alone constitute about 30 per cent of the total recoveries.
With a total of 8,08,306 cases and 24,903 deaths, Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state in India, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 4,45,139 cases and 4,053 deaths. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, and Bihar come next.
According to data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), on Wednesday, India conducted a record 11,72,179 tests in a single day, which took the total number of samples tested so far to 4,55,09,380.
Globally, India still remains the third worst affected nation from COVID-19 while the United States of America and Brazil are ahead with 6,113,160 and 3,997,865 total cases, respectively.
